the job situation

i've basically been unemployed for 8 months now and things have not progressed as i had hoped. despite knowing how bad the current job market is here, i did think i'd have a job by now. the most frustrating thing is trying to decide what to do: apply for lower level jobs to at least get back into the market, or wait it out and get at least something i'm happy with? when speaking with work counsellors, i get both answers. some swear i should hang on and wait for the right job because it will eventually come; others are saying that after 6 months, one should really start considering every job as a potential job. what annoys me with the latter is that i'm clearly overqualified for most of those jobs so no one in their right mind will actually consider me (i'm not even talking about taking me on) for them. 

summer is now on its way which mostly means there will be fewer positions to apply for. on the other hand, i know several people who got their job during the summer, so i guess i can still hope!
