'you
disappeared', he said. he knew i'd just gone to the toilet. i mean,
where else would i have gone? we were at the theatre, it was
intermission. and i had told someone where i was going, despite the
pointlessness of the information cos again, where else would i go? not
that anyone had apparently paid attention. but there he was, making
conversation about it. which turned into a small skit on how he'd had a
panic attack because i wasn't there anymore. which was nice but which,
in fact, brought us back to the flirting we'd said we were going to
avoid.
i
must say, though, that he made an effort to make the whole afternoon
look like it wasn't anything date-like. after checking that we were both
all right since the previous evening and making light conversation, he
did mention the reason we were meeting, thereby making it clear that was
the only reason we were there. not to see each other but to discuss
this thing. it was a good effort. which he totally destroyed a while
later when we were discussing The Princess Bride. ok, so i probably
shouldn't have mentioned that my favourite moment is the 'as you wish'
part but he very definitely shouldn't have pretended to be Westley and
fetch me that jug.
