the new couch

i ordered it 2 months ago and it has finally arrived! about time, too - the old one has got to be at least 25 years old and was already suffering before my sister spent 3 months on it. now i just have to get rid of it so i can get some more space in here!

the present 2

so the 'tiny' present is a book. not any book. one that i wanted to read and he was going to lend me. except his copy is in a moving box somewhere and he was in the bookshop and he saw it and that was it. he just bought it. it was nothing.

i listened to him explain all this and thought, yes, this is logical. it makes perfect sense. but does it really? apart from anything else, if it was nothing, why mention it at all? also, no one has ever got me a present for no reason. not even an ex. this could of course say more about my friends than about him but that would be quite depressing.

but the girlfriend is still in the picture. i still don't get this.

the present

someone it going to have to explain this to me. why on earth would a guy with a girlfriend get another girl a Xmas present? ok, i know he got his flatmate gifts but she lost her mother last year and he knew she was going to feel depressed and that's just a nice thing to do. but other than that? to be fair, i don't actually know what he's got me other than it's tiny, cos he forgot it at home (another country) but why even tell me? again i wouldn't be too happy about my boyfriend getting other girls presents, no matter how small. and we did settle this issue of him having a girlfriend and that this attraction between us wouldn't go anywhere - not that this has really stopped him... but seriously, am i being weird and obtuse here or is he being a total cad?

NYE

i was really tired after my sister left and actually thought of calling my friends to tell them i wouldn't be coming to dinner after all. but i'd bought the presents for the secret Santa and the wine and i knew it would be fun so i went as planned. and it was fun. we played games and saw some fireworks from the window (they live halfway up the mountain so we could see all the displays around our side of the lake). as a gift, i got (but had to fight to keep it) a heart-shaped clover seed bowl. pretty neat. let's hope it brings me luck for this year cos let's face it, 2013 was definitely not my best year.
