the date with the swagger

guy 2 and i were supposed to meet up in town and play pool but ended up meeting up in a nearby town cafe, where we just had a drink. i think i would have preferred the pool but in hindsight, it was probably just as well.

the first half of the date, we mainly talked about work and altogether, he seemed pretty negative about his job. i know it's not what he really wants to do but still. it also seemed to apply to his life in general since he got married (he's divorced). i mean, even when he talked about his sick kid he seemed more annoyed at the fact that she'd kept him up half the night than concerned about her illness. ok, so maybe he was having a bad day, but then again, apparently not.

the thing that annoyed me most, though, was that there was a swear word in every other sentence. i have nothing again swear words, when used appropriately, e.g. when you're really upset about something. but seriously, if my boss decided to hold a meeting, i would not refer to it as a 'fucking' meeting, especially when it turned out the meeting was actually pretty interesting. and although he did pay for the drinks, there was no gallantry (no opening the doors for me, no letting me go first), which is otherwise pretty standard here once you've passed the age of 25.

in the end, i was quite happy when he said he had to leave. he did kiss me as we parted, which unfortunately was just after he'd taken a drag of his cigarette so that i didn't even feel like trying to see if he was a good kisser or not. at that point, i just wanted to go home.

the birthday people

yesterday i found out that guy one and i have the same birthday. pretty incredible. i mean, the last time i knew people who had the same birthday as me was in junior high and two of those people were siblings of friends. no one since. and then, today, one of the students at one of my clients' wanted to change an appointment cos she wouldn't be there on the day - her birthday. and mine. very incredible.

the typical timing

after months of not having met anyone interesting, i now have 2 men to choose from. first, i started falling for one of my improv teammates. a couple of weeks ago, he smiled. i mean really smiled. and it was like sunlight. amazing.

a few days earlier, i'd met an Australian guy who seemed quite interested in me. i didn't think too much about it but he came again this week and still seemed interested. enough to suggest we do something next week.

and now i'm confused. i mean, i'm technically rooting for the first guy but i don't actually know that much about him - you don't get to talk about yourself much at improv. i know we have some things in common but for all i know, he has a girlfriend or he's gay or he's not interested. the second guy i know more about and we have a lot of common interests. and he has that Australian laid-back attitude that makes me feel comfortable and at ease. and, well, he's interested.

i hadn't heard from guy one for about 2 weeks so i'd started thinking more about guy two and then i got this email from guy one about his birthday party and now ...

back to work, and back to...

...my activities! although it was nice to be on holiday and do nothing, i was starting to need some kind of action, so going back to work suited me fine. but more than that, i'd really missed my dancing and improvisation sessions. after 2 weeks without, i was itching to get going. and it was great to be back. my brain seemed to figure out the left-turn in the waltz and being only 12 in improv enabled us to do loads of sketches. it really was great fun. so much so that although i'd decided to go straight home afterwards, i ended up staying for a drink and getting home at 12.30. great to be back.

my dream in Danish

over the holidays, i spent quite a lot of time watching Danish movies and series, reading Danish books and of course speak Danish. i don't think I've ever had this much Danish in my life since living there. and as a result, i had a dream all in Danish the other night. i could be wrong but i don't recall ever having one before. either way, pretty neat.

and a happy new year!

i hadn't planned on doing anything for New Year's. let's face it, nothing can top last year's and i generally think NY's is way overrated. but then i was invited to a small party at a friend's place so off i went. and it was really nice. a small bunch of people, lots of food, amazing home-made macaroons (they really were to die for!) and a midnight set of fireworks on the lake. although i'm not a big fan of the latter, it was pretty cool.
