the pig on the road

i was driving down the back road to my next lesson when i saw a pig grazing on the side of the road. it looked domesticated. it looked like it shouldn't be on a road. so i called the police. the conversation went like this:

me: hi, i'm not sure whether this is the type of thing one should report or not... well, the thing is, there's a pig on the road at x.
her: *laughs* ... uh... ok... uh... is it injured?
me: (thinking, how on earth is that relevant?) uh, no, it was just grazing on the side of the road.
her: right... so... would you like to call the police about this maybe?
...
me: oh, sorry, i thought i'd dialed the police. sorry. who did i dial?
her: medical emergencies.

which explained why she was wondering if perhaps it was injured, in case i really did think they took care of animals too! the pig, it transpired once i got hold of the right people, had clearly just managed to 'get out of its pen' and would surely be retrieved as soon as they got hold of the nearby farm.

go Wales!!!

Wales just won the Grand Chelem! hurray! it's just very sad that i didn't get to see a single game this year...

English lessons

i had just introduced an activity to practise prepositions for location (in, on, at, under, ...) in my beginner class when one of my students asked if they could do it in French. ...uh... no... the point was, after all, to learn English!

studies

i'm not entirely sure why but in the last week, 3 different people have asked me the same question about what i would do when i'm done with the course and each time, when i said i would sleep, relax and enjoy myself, they've all gone 'yeah, but then you'll start studying again'. i really don't understand why they think that. i mean, until starting this course, apart from a one-month intensive CELTA course 6 years ago, i haven't studied at all since leaving university more than 10 years ago. and if i do continue and turn this certificate into a diploma or anything else, it'll be after a long well-earned break!

so tired

i don't know if it's the online school and the added stress of having to be online every day for a certain amount of time but i am exhausted. every day this week, when my alarm has rung, i've wondered if it was Saturday. and every day, realisation that there were several days till then made me a little desperate. i can't wait for the course to be over!
